I have Sunday and Monday to finish my dragon scales, and then need to decide if I should get postcards printed for Arisia, to try selling. Would enough people buy a postcard for $1 (or four for $3) to make it worthwhile? I can get 100 cards for $20 at Staples, and they'd even have a UV coating (teh awesome), but I'm assuming they'd all have to be the same image. If I wanna get all four dragons printed, it'd add up to $80. I could do smaller quantities I'm assuming, but would the cost be worthwhile? I may stop by and ask for a quote. I'd be cool if I knew I'd sell enough to break even, and use the rest as outreach to publishers, etc.
I think Staples prints pretty quick, so if I do my image editing during the week I should be able to print 'em Friday morning before going to Artist check-in. Any thoughts, my readers? I think one thing holding me back is that, like everyone, I'm short on funds. I feel like I shouldn't spend much. I'm telling myself I'll buy certain things for myself at the con if I see them, as I haven't really treated myself to any material goods recently (except "Last Chance to See", OMG, amazing book and you all need to read it).
Currently looking through the con schedule. Who's great idea was it to schedule "Art: Marketing Your Work" and "Art: Making a Living in a Creative Field" at the same time?? I mean, really. I know it's unavoidable sometimes when two panels I want to see are at the same time, but usually they don't have anything to do with each other. This one is a conflict. And for Mercutio, "Costuming: Historical Accuracy in costuming" and "Costuming: Live Steel". I think those are related enough that they ought not be at the same time, too.
I am looking forward to seeing Repo. With a bunch of geeks. And The Eye of Argon reading.
Arisia isn't making me super excited this year. I think it's just 'cause I feel like I haven't done much new art to show. And I don't have a Steampunk dress for the Steampunk Ball. My dress plan that I've been building on paper for a year is currently planned to be finished by PiCon instead. I need to stop being all anxious and just have fun. I'm sure I will! I just need to remind myself that before I get there.
In other news, after two types of antibiotics and a new vet as I heard bad things about the old as well as not having liked them, Guen has a bladder stone and is on dissolution formula. If all goes well, she'll be cured in a month, otherwise we look into surgery. She's taking it well.
I've heard of artists being able to wrangle up pet bill funds by selling art through word-of-mouth. I'll try that method if I have to cross that bridge. I should get Paypal and an Etsy page.
